Monday Morning Raining Texas Blues With The Scrabble Queen Hot In Kauai & Gar The Texan's Psychiatric Woes

Source: durangotexas.blogspot.com --- Monday, February 08, 2010
That is my Monday morning 9am view this dark winter day in Texas. Rain is predicted to fall all day long. Snow is predicted to arrive, again, on Thursday. This is the coldest, wettest winter in all the years of my exile in Texas. Meanwhile up north, in my previous place of residence, they are experienced the warmest winter in recorded history. The Pacific Northwest winter heat wave may wreak havoc with next week's Vancouver Winter Olympics. Meanwhile, the Scrabble Queen of Washington is temporarily the Scrabble Queen of Hawaii and is tormenting me with reports of it being too HOT to sit outside. Too HOT in Kauai. Where it rarely gets into the 90s, where it is usually a nice balmy 80 something. And the Scrabble Queen is too HOT. I can not remember the last time I was too HOT. And then I have Gar the Texan lamenting that his life full of woe got its start at the now nationally notorious Kermit Hospital . Reading Gar the Texan's blog this morning I learned he's spent decades in psychiatric therapy trying get Kermit out of his head. I actually watched the entire first half of Super Bowl XLIV yesterday, without getting bored. I think it had something to do with the HD quality of the video rendering watching more watchable. The Who halftime show was good, too. But, I grew bored at some point in the 3rd quarter and ended my active Super Bowl viewing for the year. Lame commercials this year, for the most part. The Simpsons Coke one was amusi ...

Genealogy and Scrabble

Source: blog.eogn.com --- Sunday, February 07, 2010
Genealogists in the San Antonio area know Matt DeWaelsche as an archivist at the Texana/Genealogy Room at the Central San Antonio Public Library. However, there's another side to him they may not know about. By day, DeWaelsche helps genealogists. But at night, and on weekends too, he is known for something else: he plays he plays championship Scrabble. DeWaelsche is not an average player. He plays at a level where chess clocks are slapped during play. When he scans a board, he sees every word as an anagram, and memorized word stems light up like neon signs. DeWaelsche will be one of 25 players inducted into the Texas Scrabble Hall of Fame Sunday morning at the Stagecoach Inn in Salado. You can read more in an article in the MySA news web site at http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local_news/83694817.html . Register Now for the Scrabble Fundraiser for Literacy!

Source: greaterhomewood.blogspot.com --- Friday, February 05, 2010
I know Spring must seem so far away, especially with the impending snowstorm, but it's time to get that early bird registration prize and sign up for GHCC's ninth annual Scrabble Fundraiser for Literacy on Saturday, March 27. This wonderful event offers competitive and social Scrabble play, a light fare buffet to keep your brain fueled, and fabulous prizes to encourage a little friendly competition. Don't think the Scrabble Fundraiser for Literacy is just for Scrabble pros, either -- this is one of our favorite events here at GHCC because it's a whole lot of fun and it benefits a great cause. The social brackets match participants up with players of all skill levels, so there's no pressure (unless, of course, you want to go competitive) if you feel a little rusty. The event turns out a lot of people, so it's a prime opportunity to catch up with your Greater Homewood friends and neighbors over one of America's favorite board games. Registration is $35 ($20 for students with ID or seniors ages 62+) and gets you in the door from 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. for all the Scrabble and good company you could ask for. The event will be held at the Calvert School again, which is located at 4300 N. Charles Street, Baltimore, 21218. For more information, visit GHCC's website , where you can find a downloadable registration form with full details and directions to the event. Last but not least, make sure you RSVP to the Facebook event page so you can ge ...
